Dendrobium Spectabile Care

Light
Lots of light is needed in order to get blooms. It is easier to give this one not enough light than too much, the leaves will burn if they get too much light or they get too warm, though.

Temperatures
Temperatures should be inbetween 80 and 85 degrees F during the day, and near 65 degrees at night.

Potting
They like a well draining mixture like bark. Some people use stones. Experiment a bit and see what works for your conditions and watering habits. Repotting is usally done in spring, once every 1 to 3 years. When repotting, remove all the medium and trim the unhealthy roots. After repotting keep the plant in a more shady spot for a bit.

Watering
These plants can dry out a bit once mature, since they have pseudobulbs, especially as growth slows. Otherwise wait until barely moist before watering again.

Fertilizing
Fertilizing should be done on a regular schedule with a high nitrogen fertilizer. You can use a quarter strength of the recommended with everything watering, or fertilize full strength once or twice a month.

The blooming season is typically late winter/early spring.
